Magna Awards

Every year the judges tell us the Magna Award nominations are more compelling and creative. It is inspiring to read about the winning programs and to meet the board members who develop them. Their work clearly benefits the students and the communities they serve. Sodexo is proud to support this recognition program that encourages innovative thinking in public education. —Steve Dunmore, president, Sodexo

Welcome to American School Board Journal’s Magna Awards, sponsored by Sodexo. Over the past 18 years, we’ve featured many excellent examples of school district leadership, and this year is no exception. We are pleased to have the opportunity to showcase these award-winning projects as examples of innovation and excellence in school governance.

The nomination period for the Magna Awards 2013 program is now closed. All nominators received email notification of their program's status mid-December. If you have not received notification of your program's status, please contact Margaret suslick by email or by calling 703-838-6739.

A general announcement about the Magna Awards 2013 honorees was made April 3; writeups of this year's honored programs were posted on this webpage on that date, and can be found in the "Resources" section, below.

Every year the American School Board Journal Magna Awards highlight best practices of school district leadership. Nominations are accepted in the fall and winners are recognized at the Best Practices for School Leaders Luncheon at the NSBA Annual Conference. Sodexo has been a proud sponsor of the awards since 1995. This year’s luncheon featured a dynamic speaker – Margaret Regan of the FutureWork Institute – who spoke about “A Look @Today’s K-12 Students.”  Her presentation offered a unique perspective on the make-up of today’s students, and key themes highlighted in the presentation include technology, social media, purchasing power, entertainment, bullying and obesity.

This year's Best Practices for School Leaders Luncheon was held Saturday, April 13, 12:00-2:00 p.m., at the San Diego Convention Center, during NSBA's 73rd Annual Conference.
