The past eight months have not been kind to teachers unions. Beginning with the documentary “Waiting for Superman” last fall, unions have been on the defensive. But are they really responsible for what ails public education? Your Turn readers, when asked that question, gave a resounding “yes and no.”

Thirty-four percent of you agreed that “teachers unions are a big impediment to education reform.” Another 32 percent said “they have negative and positive effects on education.” Twenty-five percent said “teachers unions are not the problem,” and 4 percent marked “none of the above.”
