This year’s odd news in public school education law is strewn with examples of school systems dropping the hammer on students, teachers, and parents through get-tough, crackdown, no-mercy policies and practices.

Often school boards and superintendents are fully justified in creating and enforcing a policy that curtails the action of an employee or student. But just as often the result is a guffaw or a snicker as the conflict borders on the absurd.

Here are some strange but true legal happenings from around the nation that should make you smile -- if it’s not your district, of course.
